Endocrine disruptors are pervasive molecules in our environment that we have just begun to pay attention to on a broad scale. Synthetic estrogens pose a significant risk to water quality for all due to the advent of things like parabens, bisphenol A, and hormonal birth control pills. I proposed a research project during my PhD studies to combat this problem. Contained within this PDF is information regarding the wastewater treatment process, background on estrogen, the problems that synthetic estrogen poses to the environment and wastewater treatment process, and how I would tackle this problem as an organic chemist.
